Apple is celebrating World Emoji Day, Tuesday, July 17, 2018, by announcing the arrival of more than 70 new emoji characters with its iOS 12 software update.
New faces and new hair options — including gray, curls and bald heads — are coming to Apple’s emoji selection to better represent the firm’s broad spectrum of users. Additions to Apple’s animal emoji include a kangaroo, a peacock and a lobster, while new food emoji put mango, lettuce, cupcake and mooncake on the menu.
A total of more than 70 new emoji will land with the iOS 12 software update, due this fall for users of compatible iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch devices. They will also be coming to Mac shortly after. JB
