Cryptocurrency mining apps have been banned on the Google Play Store based on updated developer policies.
The policy update includes a specific line under the Financial Instruments category. The statement effectively banned crypto miners for mobile devices. However, apps used for remotely managing mining operations are still allowed.

There are currently a wide number of crypto mining apps available on the internet, including MinerGate, Crypto Miner and NeoNeonMiner. Such apps should become unavailable on the Play Store, but a quick search using the keywords “crypto miner” still displayed a selection of mining apps as of this writing.

Meanwhile, desktop PC users still run the danger of encountering subversive crypto mining programs on the internet. One such program called Coinhive recently found its way into the Philippine game client of popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) “League of Legends” (LoL).
Coinhive greatly affected PC performance as the program allocated processing power and memory to mining cryptocurrency. This obviously impacted the gaming experience of gamers playing LoL.
Developers were able to quickly address the issue and remove the malicious program on July 11. /ra
