SpaceX Launch Creates Eerie Cloud Over California

SpaceX celebrated its first West Coat landing on Oct. 7, after a Falcon 9 rocket launched from and touched down at the Vandenberg Air Force Base, lighting up the sky over Southern California as it did so.

The rocket carried Argentina’s SAOCOM-1A Earth-observation satellite to orbit.

The separation of the rocket’s first and second stages created a bright, rounded condensation trail in the evening sky, prompting a spike in “UFO” searches on Google, and the Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to tweet last Sunday, “Nope, definitely not aliens.” JB
