Representatives from Globe Telecom, Singtel and KDDI Research receive award at the TM Forum Digital Transformation Asia 2018 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November 2018

Globe Telecom, along with Singtel and KDDI Research, bagged the Outstanding Catalyst for Innovation award at the TM Forum Digital Transformation Asia 2018 for creating the best recipe for a seamless virtual end-to-end 5G network tailored to a wide diversity of use cases.

TM Forum, the annual gathering of Asia’s top telcos and solution vendors, bestowed honors last November 15, 2018 to Globe and its partners for their catalyst entry called 5G Patisserie. The project focused on 5G network slicing, which lets the telco provide portions of its network for varying use cases, whether it is a smart energy grid or a connected car. The goal of 5G Patisserie is to demonstrate that network slices can be dynamically created as well as managed with minimal human intervention and time-to-market, and without affecting other network slices. Globe is set to start offering the first 5G Globe At Home service by the second quarter of 2019.

The flexibility brought about by a seamless 5G network slicing will help Globe address cost and efficiency requirements needed from us in the future,” Globe Chief Technology and Information Officer Gil Genio said. “This is a testament that Globe is serious in its commitment to provide our customers the best 5G experience possible.”

Catalysts are proof-of-concept projects developed collaboratively by TM Forum members. These projects bring together small and large companies to create innovative solutions to common challenges. “This catalyst by Globe, Singtel, and KDDI Research helped us look further into how we can develop our industry standards and frameworks for 5G,” said Haiping Che, Huawei Chief Technology Officer and TM Forum Board Member.

The TM Forum Catalyst Award is a rapid-fire innovation project that allows telco operators and solution vendors to participate openly and solve industry challenges. As leader of Filipino digital lifestyle, Globe aims to create innovative solutions by simplifying technology to further allow customers to focus on what matters most in their lives.
