This week Apple began selling smart battery cases for its latest phones, the first time the brand has done so since the iPhone 7.
On Tuesday, a set of smart battery cases for the entire 2018 iPhone lineup hit the online store. Whether you’re the owner of an XR whose battery life is fairly respectable or of an XS model whose battery could benefit from an extra push, you now have the option of portably extending your device’s life.
Each case is compatible with Qi-certified chargers and has a soft silicon exterior finish paired with a microfiber lining to keep your phone snug, safe and sufficiently charged. Naturally, though, that extra battery pack adds some dimension to the case giving it a similar bump to that of previous generations.
With the case, the iPhone XS’s talk time, internet use, and video playback is increased to 33, 21, and 25 hours from 20, 12 and 14 respectively, whereas the XS Max jumps to 37, 20, and 25 hours from 25, 13 and 15.
Of course because the XR already boasts the most impressive battery life of the 2018 range, the phone combined with its corresponding smart case promises the most significant performance increase of the line with up to 39 hours of talk time, 22 hours of internet use, and 27 hours of video playback, compared to 25, 15 and 16 without the case.
The cases charge via the classic Apple Lightning port with the battery status displayed both on the iPhone lock screen and in the Notification Center. With a USB-PB compatible charger, the cases can be charged even quicker.
For all models, the case comes in either black or white for $129 (over P6,000). JB
