MANILA, Philippines–The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomed Facebook’s commitment to clamp down on pages and profiles that spread vaccine misinformation, which it said are “a major threat to global health.”

The United Nations’ specialized body lauded the social media giant’s initiative to direct its users to “accurate and reliable vaccine information” as this helps ensure that “vital health messages reach people who need them the most.”

Under its program, Facebook will reduce the distribution of vaccine misinformation and provide its users “authoritative information on the topic,” such as those provided by WHO.—JOVIC YEE
