Huawei Pocket S with Lower Price Launches In China
Have you ever wanted to use a foldable smartphone? Huawei recently announced its first clamshell foldable called the P50 Pocket S.
It has the circular notification display and camera bumps of the original P50. However, the new model has fewer external cameras and a lower-end processor.
As a result, the Huawei Pocket S starts at a lower price than the Pocket. The latter costs ¥8,988 or roughly $1,228, while the new version costs ¥5,988 or around $818.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer uses its new clamshell phone to compete with other brands. The price makes it the most affordable foldable phone on the market.
For example, the Huawei Pocket S is cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. The latter costs roughly ¥7,499 or $1,025, around $200 more than the Pocket S.
Consequently, the new phone becomes the ideal entry point for those who want a foldable smartphone.
The Pocket S only skimps on processor and camera quality. It uses the Snapdragon 778G chip instead of the P50’s Snapdragon 888.
The new version only has 40 and 13 MP rear cameras. On the other hand, the original P50 has an additional 32 MP camera.
Aside from these downgrades, the Huawei Pocket S still has the original P50’s 6.9-inch internal foldable display.
It provides a 2790 x 1188 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Moreover, the new foldable has the P50’s unique 1.04-inch external display.
The component works as a notification window, camera viewfinder, and more. Also, Huawei says the new device can withstand 400,000 folds.
Ongoing US sanctions against Huawei impose technical limitations on the product. For example, the Pocket S cannot support 5G networks.
More importantly, the Huawei Pocket S is only available in China. The phone would not have built-in Google apps and services if the company decided on a worldwide release.
