PH internet speed slightly improved in December 2023 – Ookla

MANILA, Philippines — International internet speed monitoring firm Speedtest.net by Ookla saw a slight improvement in the average internet speed for both broadband and mobile in the Philippines in December 2023.

Based on Ookla’s recent Global Index report, the Philippines’ fixed broadband median speed slightly improved to 92.92 megabits per second (Mbps) from the 92.19 Mbps registered in November.

Broadband upload speed also slightly increased to 93.34 Mbps from 92.45 Mbps

Meanwhile, mobile median speed also improved from 27.75 Mbps in November to 28.12 Mbps in December, while upload speed stayed relatively unchanged at 6.89 Mbps from the previous month’s 6.81 Mbps.

The Philippines’ broadband speed ranked 86th out of 146 countries and 49th for mobile speed out of 178 countries.

Leading mobile internet providers

Meanwhile, based on Speedtest.net’s Q4 Internet Performance Report, Smart led the list of mobile operators in the country with a median download speed of 37.64 Mbps, followed by Globe  with an average download speed of 26.44 Mbps, and DITO Telco  (19.74 Mbps).

In terms of phone manufacturers, Apple’s products displayed the highest median download speeds at 51.19 Mbps, followed by Samsung at 37.76 Mbps and Xiaomi at 30.66 Mbps.
