Final Fantasy VII Revelation to release in Spring 2027

Square Enix has officially unveiled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final chapter in the company’s remake trilogy, with a simultaneous launch planned for Spring 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement marks the beginning of the end for a project that started with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024.
While Square Enix has been careful not to reveal major story details, everything shown so far points to Revelation being the largest and most ambitious entry in the trilogy. The game will continue Cloud Strife’s pursuit of Sephiroth as the world faces destruction from the approaching Meteor, bringing the remake project to its long-awaited conclusion.

One of the biggest additions is the return of the Highwind airship. Longtime fans of the original 1997 game will recognize it as a major part of the later stages of the adventure, and its inclusion suggests players will be given far greater freedom to explore the world. According to details shared following the reveal, Revelation will feature the largest game world in the remake series, with near-total exploration across the map.
The roster is also expanding. Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, who played supporting roles in Rebirth, will become fully playable party members. Vincent will bring his firearm-based combat style into battle, while Cid joins the front line with spear-based attacks.

Square Enix is also introducing a new FITS (Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear) system. The feature allows characters to equip specialized outfits that unlock unique abilities and combat styles, drawing inspiration from the classic job systems seen throughout the Final Fantasy franchise.
Beyond new mechanics, Revelation appears set to revisit some of the most iconic moments and locations from the original game. Square Enix has confirmed the return of Wutai, while the massive Weapons, some of the most memorable bosses in Final Fantasy history, are expected to play a major role in the final conflict.
Producer Yoshinori Kitase described the original Final Fantasy VII as a title that has grown into a “legend” since its 1997 release, adding that the remake series is now approaching its climactic finale after years of development and fan support. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has also emphasized that the team is focused on delivering a complete experience, previously stating that the final installment would not launch in a “half-finished state.”
For many players, Final Fantasy VII Revelation represents more than the next entry in the series. It is the conclusion to a remake project that has spent nearly a decade reimagining one of gaming’s most influential RPGs. With a larger world, expanded cast, new combat systems, and the story’s final confrontation with Sephiroth on the horizon, Square Enix is positioning Revelation as the most ambitious chapter of the trilogy yet.
