GLOBE Telecom continues to assert its commitment to enabling the Filipino digital lifestyle with its partnerships with international and local brands to enrich the customer experience.

The telco’s seventh staging of its quarterly event “Wonderful World of Globe” raises the bar higher in terms of offering its customers innovative services that capitalize on the use of broadband and data with its partnerships with Google, Shopify, and HOOQ as well as its venture to m-health services through KonsultaMD and m-advertising through AdSpark.

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu shares how Globe continues to be the purveyor of the Filipino digital lifestyle by providing innovative offerings that let customers experience the new connected life.

“Technology is shaping the way we consume content,” says Ernest Cu, president and CEO of Globe. Cu looks back at how Globe redefined messaging-which it offered first in the Philippines-with its partnerships with instant messaging apps and offering them either for free or for a minimal cost.

Entertainment

Google’s Chromecast is the telco’s way of amplifying the digital entertainment experience in the country. Chromecast is a thumb-sized media-streaming device that plugs into the high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) port of a television.

Globe customers can use Chromecast in watching content from mobile device to a much wider screen such as the television set.

“While we try to enhance digital lifestyle using mobile devices; we at Globe also want to bring these experiences at home,” Cu said.

Globe global content partners are also Chromecast-ready, allowing customers to enjoy thousands of movies and TV series on HOOQ, watch live and on-demand NBA games via NBA League Pass, and stream music and video content on YouTube. Soon, Globe customers can get the Chromecast for free starting at Globe Home Broadband Plan 1299.

“With these offerings, Globe is committed to bringing a holistic and connected life to our customers,” says Dan Horan, senior advisor for Consumer Business at Globe.

Along with Chromecast, Globe is giving its customers a special package for YouTube for only P10 of 100MB or 30 minutes for streaming videos. YouTube has one billion users with 4 billion streams and 400 hours of videos uploaded every minute, according to Horan. Globe users should be able to enjoy video streaming at a very low cost given Filipinos’ penchant for video and entertainment content.

e-Commerce

Embracing the digital lifestyle also includes understanding the concept of online shopping. Globe responds to this growing trend by partnering with two of the most popular shopping sites, Lazada and Zalora, and offering exclusive deals and free data access for its customers.

Globe is also strengthening its support to Filipino SMEs through its Globe myBusiness unit with its partnership with Shopify, a global e-commerce platform.

“Being with entrepreneurs every step of the way has always been part of our mission at Globe myBusiness,” says Martha Sazon, senior vice president for Globe myBusiness. “The looming digital age requires us to offer innovative business solutions to SMEs so that we can help them run their operations smoothly and more efficiently. With Shopify, we continue to make our customers’ digital journey easier with an eCommerce platform complete with end-to-end operations support and accessible payment gateway, logistics, advertising, and marketing services.”

Through Globe myBusiness, SMEs can avail of Shopify services for as low as P429 a month.

Life

Aside from entertainment and commerce, health is also one of the services that is starting to maximize technology for a better, more inclusive experience. The telco’s venture into m-health services with KonsultaMD is one of its most groundbreaking moves to date, giving customers a 24/7 “phone doctor” that allows them to consult licensed Filipino doctors without leaving their homes.

“We are here to disrupt Philippine health care,” says Maridol Ylanan, CEO of Global Telehealth. “What we offer is not just professional consultation but also the ability to save time as well as affordability. People get straightforward help with health and medical relations with physicians who can answer health concerns.”

Horan also announced the availability of two apps that will make customers’ lives easier: GoCery, which aims to change the way people do their grocery shopping where customers can do their shopping via web and the items will be delivered right at their doorstep; and sEATs, which offers guaranteed and instant reservations at the city’s most popular dining spots and restaurants.

Advertising

Lastly, Globe is pushing its digital advertising arm AdSpark in its effort devices for information or entertain—to capture the new connected life.

“(Digital) Advertising (must be) less invasive and (should) be more creative,” Bela Gupta, director of AdSpark said. Gupta says that digital ad spend is still relatively low in the country with brands still opting for traditional media to reach their customers. But with more consumers using the internet and their mobile devices for information or entertainment there have been more opportunities to interact with them in the digital space.

“We want to see that gap as an opportunity for Globe,” she says.
