Assassin’s Creed developer to open new studio in Philippines

Ubisoft Philippines new studioInternational video game developer company Ubisoft announced Tuesday that it will open a new studio in the Philippines.

“Ubisoft Philippines will be recruiting 50 new team members this year, from artists to programmers, designers to project managers,” Chip Go, the new studio manager of Ubisoft Philippines, said.

“We are very confident of our ability to build a strong team to take up these challenges,” he added.
The new branch will focus on collaboration and development of its upcoming AAA console games for the global developer.

The new studio, Ubisoft Philippines, will be the second production house for the company in Southeast Asia (SEA). Ubisoft Philippines will be an extension of Ubisoft Singapore, the company’s first studio in SEA when it opened in 2008. The Philippines-based studio will open in the second quarter of 2016.

Located on the De La Salle Campus in Santa Rosa, Laguna, the new studio will have strong ties to its
Singapore hub. A number of founding team members will move from Singapore to train Ubisoft Philippines’ staff.

Filipino developer and five-year Ubisoft Singapore Veteran Chip Go will manage the Philippine branch.

In a statement, Go said that Ubisoft has big plans for its SEA-based studios, with Ubisoft Philippines aiming to hire some 50 new talents this year.

Go and the Singapore production house for Ubisoft developed groundbreaking mechanics for the French developer’s best performing titles. Most notably, Go was in charge of the team that pioneered the naval gameplay of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
