Apple cuts prices of Macs in Malaysia

If you’re in the market for a cheaper MacBook, try booking the next flight to Malaysia.

Retail prices of all Mac machines in the country have taken a drastic drop due to the weakening of the Malaysian currency, Ringgit (RM), against the United States dollar.

As per reports from Malaysian-based media Star Online, the cost-cutting will affect the entire Mac line—including the Mac Pro, iMac, Mac Mini and MacBook.

The price cuts varied differently per device, as lower priced products only received a meager RM200 (P2,394) to RM400 (P4,788) reduction in price, while pricier models like the MacBook Pro have been lowered as much as RM700 (P8,379).

The biggest reduction, meanwhile, goes to the Mac Pro line, where the most expensive option has been reduced to a whopping RM1,600 (P19,153) discount.

However, a high-spec Mac Pro will still set users back a hefty RM16,999 (P83,784).

The price reductions, however, will only affect the Mac line and will not extend to the iOS and other products in the Apple range.

Aside from the reduction in retail prices, Apple has also doubled the MacBook Air’s gigabyte storage capacity—which now comes with 8GB of RAM compared to only 4GB in previous models.

Prices are reportedly still subject for change, depending on the current state of Malaysia’s currency exchange rate. Khristian Ibarrola, INQUIRER.NET
