‘I am Setsuna’ now available for PS4, PC
”I am Setsuna”, the first “old-school” Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) produced by Square Enix’s Tokyo RPG Factory, was released on Tuesday for Stream on PC and PlayStation 4.
The classic game, which was previously named “Project Setsuna”, features a young lady named Setsuna who sacrifices her life to save her fellow people and her young mercenary named Endir, which is steered by the player.
””I am Setsuna” introduces the authentic JRPG style of yesteryear to PlayStation 4 and Steam! Journey with Setsuna as she prepares to make the ultimate sacrifice and save the people of the Last Lands. A powerfully nostalgic experience, blending a classic style of storytelling, battle system, and gameplay,” Square Enix wrote on its website. The company aspires to rejuvenate classic “throwback” games, similar to Nintendo’s 1995 video game ”Chrono Trigger”, which were enjoyed by kids decades ago.
The goal of the game is tweaked reversely – instead of rescuing her from monsters, the player (Endir) should slaughter the valiant damsel. The battle scenes, paired with a dreary piano minus-one, makes players tactically intrigued and confused, TIME reported.
The word “Setsuna” was derived from the Japanese word “setsunai” which means “bittersweet sorrow”.
Square Enix was also the mastermind behind other exquisite Japanese RPG franchises like ”Final Fantasy” and ”Dragon Quest”, according to The Verge.
