Software updates are meant to help existing electronic devices get improved performance, more features and an overall notch up in their usefulness. With this in mind, Tesla sought to improve the performance of its existing electric vehicles through a software update, and it did.

Thanks to this update, which adds the “Ludicrous” mode, the P100D variants of its Model S sedan and Model X SUV saw improvements in the vehicles’ 0-60 mph acceleration times, reports The Next Web.

The updated electric vehicles will now be able to accelerate at a tenth of the time faster than it previously did, allowing them to be faster than much more expensive supercars.

Tesla is not just all business, however, as a previous software update had an Easter egg that turned the graphics of the in-dash control system into James Bond’s submersible Lotus from “The Spy Who Loved Me.” There is also another one that turned the road on the lane indicator into a rainbow road a la Mario Kart.

Just like how smartphones are updated with new operating systems, future vehicles may also be getting over-the-air updates for added functionality on a more regular basis.  Alfred Bayle
