Palace will always respect legal processes, says Valte

MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang was unfazed by the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by the Supreme Court against the implementation of the controversial cybercrime law, saying it was a ‘provisional remedy,” and not a judgment on its merits.

“The administration will always respect the legal processes that are issued by the court,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a press briefing.

But Valte said the Palace has yet to see and read the TRO to find out the specific provisions that were stopped by the court.

“And, again, a TRO is a provisional remedy. It is not in any way construed as a judgment on the merits,” she said.

i can understand your sentiments. but we are taught that regardless about how we feel about the decision of the SC, their decisions are absolute unless they themselves issue a reversal. it is not up to the DOJ to decide which TROs are valid (even if it goes against all their common sense).

someone once said: the law may be harsh, but it is the law.

Miss Valte says that the palace will always respect the legal process. Of course! The executive department has no choice but respect the Supreme Court especially now that Corona is gone!

PNoy’s wrong-headedness about this (the cybercrime law) is compromising his leadership.

He needs to step up to the 21st century and embrace the internet as an equal partner in the furtherance of good government.

Enlisting the help of the people, particularly in his anti-corruption drive is the way to go.

In an atmosphere of freedom of expression, he and his closest supporters in the government will also be vulnerable to attacks in the cyberspace. He should not be surprised.

Because if he accepts that as a good thing rather than bad it will be an indication that he is a strong leader rather than weak, a leader of all the people rather than a mere core group of allies.

Why so? Because the people themselves, whom he will have come to recognize as his true allies will protect him from his friends.

The kind that are worse than enemies.

You think we are stupid Ms. Valte, that we don’t know the difference between Temporary Restraining Order and Judgement? Please do not insult out intelligence. And of course we hope that the Supreme Court will strike down the Cybercrime Prevention Law in its totality.

SC’s giving the people time to think. The Corona clouds still lingers…
