LOOK: ‘Massive’ 9-pound goldfish found in lake
Park officials spotted a “massive” goldfish that weighed nine pounds while doing a routine test at a lake in South Carolina in the United States.
The team found the animal on Nov. 16 in Oak Grove Lake, as per NBC News earlier today, Dec. 9. The Greenville County Rec also posted a photo of the huge catch on its Facebook page on Dec. 7 while stating how they saw it.
Article continues after this advertisement“The work included electrofishing, a method of measuring the health of the fish population,” it said.

Ty Houck of the Greenville County Parks explained that the process involved running a weak electrical current in the water to stun the fish for a few minutes.
Article continues after this advertisementHe also noted that they did not spot any other goldfish in the lake during the survey. The animal is a rare find as most goldfish are only expected to top five pounds in the wild, according to National Geographic.
After documenting the large goldfish, the team released it back into the water.
“At the advice of professionals we decided to leave the bachelor, or bachelorette, back where we found it,” Houck said in the report. “Obviously, they’re really happy here.” /ra
