Globe’s tower builds on track; secures 495 permits in Jan-Feb
Globe’s target of installing 2,000 new towers this year got a massive support after it secured a total of 495 permits from different local government units within the first two months of the year.
The company gained 253 permits in the first month of the year before following it up with another 242 permits in February. These developments augur well for the company as it targets to build a record number of new cell sites this year.
North Luzon topped the areas with the most permits secured with 164, followed by NCR with 118 and Visayas with 78. Mindanao was fourth with 71 and South Luzon getting 64 permits.
“More and more local government units are now realizing the value and importance of connectivity especially for people who work from home and for children doing online learning. They have seen the importance of having a strong internet connection and good signal on how to extend basic government services to their constituents. Not having connectivity, while the whole country has embraced the new normal, will really have an impact on how the people see their LGUs in these challenging times,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.
When it comes to provinces, Nueva Ecija released the most permits with 40, Pangasinan came in second with 32 while Davao del Sur was at third with 31 — 23 of which came from Davao City alone. Cebu released 30 while Bulacan handed out 20 permits.
In Metro Manila, Pasig City topped the LGUs with the most permits issued with 25, Manila is second with 22 and Makati third with 11. Quezon City released nine permits while Paranaque handed out seven permits.
Globe’s aggressive and sustained network builds and upgrades are showing enhanced overall customer data experience as the telco emerged as the most improved in mobile average download speed across all technologies to 16.44 Mbps in Q4 2020 from 13.50 Mbps in Q4 2019, a 22% improvement according to Ookla data.
