Vivo X90 Pro Plus Debuts With Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | Inquirer Technology

Vivo X90 Pro Plus Is The First Phone With Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

06:18 AM November 24, 2022

China sets the global smartphone standard by releasing the first that has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset: the Vivo x90 Pro Plus.

We can expect the processor to appear in other Android phones like the Samsung S23 series. Yet, Vivo blazed that trail.

Aside from a beefier chip, the Vivo X90 Pro Plus boasts serious hardware. However, the brand has not specified details for a worldwide release.

According to The Verge, Vivo does not identify the X90 Pro Plus’ chip as the Snapdragon 8 due to its MediaTek partnership. Still, the specs provide some clues.

FEATURED STORIES

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 enables the UFS 4.0 storage standard. It achieves read speeds of 4,200 megabits per second and write speeds of 2,800MBps.

The Vivo X90 Pro Plus looks similar to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra concept smartphone. It has a large camera lens that covers nearly a third of the phone’s rear.

The huge component houses a massive 1-inch Sony IMX989 50-megapixel main sensor. Also, it uses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX758 with 2x zoom for portrait images and a 64-megapixel 3.5x optical zoom lens.

Vivo says it uses low-dispersion glass for the main camera lens. Also, the new phone uses a wide f/1.75 aperture, the camera part that narrows and widens to control light reflected into the lens.

As a result, the Vivo X90 Pro Plus transmits 24% more light to the sensor than the regular version of the Sony IMX989.

A 4,800mAh battery powers the Pro Plus. It supports 80W fast wired and 50W wireless charging.

Aside from the Pro Plus, the X90 series includes the X90 and X90 Pro. As mentioned, Vivo has not specified a date for worldwide release.

The Pro Plus is only available in China. It is now available for pre-order and will go on sale on December 6, 2022. It costs ¥6499 or roughly $910.

Conclusion

The Vivo X90 Pro Plus is the first smartphone that houses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Yet, it is not the only brand offering innovation in China.

As mentioned above, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra looks like the Pro Plus but will have a full-size lens attachment. Also, Huawei has an affordable foldable smartphone called the Pocket S.

You cannot purchase them outside China, but you may try gaming phones as alternatives. Keep up-to-date with the latest smartphone news by following Inquirer Tech.
