Ring Always Home Cam: The First Indoor Security Camera

Amazon elevates home security with the Ring Always Home Cam, the world’s first flying indoor security camera!

It is a drone that flies around your home at specific times. On the other hand, it could zoom into a certain area if a sensor triggers.

At the time of writing, we do not have a specific release date and price for the Ring Always Home Cam. However, you may request an invitation to buy it.

The Always Home Cam looks distinct from most drones. It encases its blades in a plastic square and sports a long camera segment at the bottom.

As a result, it looks like a floating letter “T” when flying. Unlike most drones, you cannot control the Ring Always Home Cam’s movement.

Instead, you must set a flight path from its charging station to a specific part of your home. Then, it would move to that location at a certain time and return to the station.

The drone’s camera would record a video of the surroundings while flying. Afterward, it will notify you once it completes a routine.

Alternatively, you may look through the Ring Always Home Cam using the Ring app to inspect your house in real time.

The Always Home Cam first appeared at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. The Ring founder Jamie Siminoff discussed the new product with The Verge.

The company initially opened preorder requests in 2021. However, Siminoff said 2024 was the earliest time it would become available in the market.

He admitted that various factors keep it from becoming an acceptable household product. For example, Ring would need to lower the cost.

Siminoff said it would cost $249.99. Yet, “if it was a $2,000 product, we could put the sensors on it today, and it would be fine,” he noted.

Moreover, his company must make it work reliably in every home. The Ring Always Home Cam uses lidar sensors that struggle to detect mirrors and windows.

The founder said the glass must reflect a wall to help the sensors determine space. Otherwise, it would likely crash into windows and mirrors.

Conclusion

The Ring Always Home Cam is the first-ever flying indoor security camera. It appeared at CES 2023, but we may need to wait until next year to buy one.

Aside from the flying camera, you may request a preorder for the Astro robot. It is an autonomous robot on wheels that patrols your home.
