MusicLM: Google AI That Creates Songs From Text

Artificial intelligence proves that it can write papers, produce images, and create videos from a single sentence. Wait until you see the Google AI music project!

The world’s favorite search engine recently published research on MusicLM, a program that creates music in any genre from text prompts.

Google has not released the AI music app at the time of writing. However, its limited features have astonished many people online.

How does MusicLM work?

The Google Music AI works similarly to ChatGPT and other generative AI. It uses machine learning and algorithms to create new content from a database.

Its current repository only has 280,000 hours of music, which is relatively smaller than Spotify’s massive library.

Yet, it can combine music with surprising variety and depth. Also, it can produce tracks based on concepts that computers struggle to understand.

For example, it could create a hybrid of K-Pop and Classical with a “spacey, otherworldly” tune that promotes a “sense of wonder and awe.”

MusicLM can also create melodies based on whistling, humming, or the description of a painting.

Its story mode can merge several descriptions to create a DJ set or album. However, MusicLM has numerous flaws like ChatGPT and DALL-E,

The most apparent one is that some of its compositions may sound weird or incomprehensible. Moreover, it can sound more repetitive than manmade tunes.

You may have to wait a few years to use it because Google researchers do not want to release it yet. They said they want to avoid AI copyright issues.

Around 1% of the music that MusicLM produces comes directly from training songs.

Eric Sunray released a whitepaper in 2021 that suggests that there are enough “coherent” traces of copyrighted content in AI songs.

Consequently, various artists may file numerous lawsuits if Google releases Music LM in its premature state.

Conclusion

MusicLM is like ChatGPT, except it creates music instead of essays. It can create songs from specific descriptions and obscure phrases.

However, much of its content sounds repetitive and sometimes near incomprehensible. Perhaps that is because it lacks the core of human creativity: a soul.

You also have adaptability that can help you outpace artificial intelligence. Hone that quality by following the latest digital trends from Inquirer Tech.
