Olympics Esports Is A Thing Now, And You Can Join!

The International Olympic Committee announced its first-ever Esports event. Even better, amateur players can participate!

Its exact name is the Olympics Esports Series 2023, a global competition involving virtual and simulated sports beginning March 1.

The IOC confirms nine games for the event with different requirements for volunteers. Let’s check out your options below!

What are the games for the Olympics Esports Series 2023?

You need an online Olympics account to participate in these games. Start by going to olympics.com and selecting the Sign In option above.

Next, click the Sign Up option below and enter the required information. Afterward, click the Continue button, and follow the instruction to complete registration.

The Olympics Esports Series has nine games with different participation requirements. Here are the video games included in the Olympics Esports event:

  1. Archery (Tic Tac Bow)
  2. Baseball (WBSC eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS)
  3. Chess (Chess.com)
  4. Cycling (Zwift)
  5. Dance (Just Dance)
  6. Motorsport (Gran Turismo)
  7. Sailing (Virtual Regatta)
  8. Tennis (Tennis Clash)
  9. Taekwondo (Virtual Taekwondo)

Archery

Tic Tac Bow is an archery simulator for mobile devices. You must download the game on your Android or iOS device and have an internet connection.

Baseball

The Olympics Esports Series will feature Baseball via WBSC eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS, a simulation game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch. 

Contestants must have a digital game copy with a PS4, PS5, or Nintendo Switch. 

Chess

Chess lets you show off your inner Magnus Carlsen or Hikaru Nakamura via Chess.com. You must create an account on the website to join.

Then, head to chess.com/events,register for the international open qualifiers, and select the Play tab.

Cycling

The Olympics Esports Cycling event involves the Zwift virtual game, where you ride a stationary bike for in-game races.

At the time of writing, the official page hasn’t specified the participation requirements. 

Dance

The Dance portion has gamers playing Just Dance, a motion-based dance simulator by developer Ubisoft.

You play Just Dance by mimicking on-screen moves as the music plays. However, the IOC Esports website says it is an invitation-only event reserved for the best Just Dancers.

Racing

The Racing segment has Gran Turismo 7, a widely-popular race simulation game. Contestants must have a PS4 or PS5 with the game installed.

Unlike the other events, it starts on April 13. Drivers will compete in a special time trial track for the Olympics Esports Series. 

The best-ranked drivers get to compete in the Olympics Esports Week. 

Sailing

The Sailing portion has players conquering waves in the Virtual Regatta mobile game.

You need to download it on Android Google Play or Apple App Store. However, the Olympics Esports website hasn’t specified the qualifying requirements.

Taekwondo

This segment involves the Virtual Taekwondo simulation game by World Taekwondo and Refract Technologies. 

It lets players compete with the Korean martial art via motion tracking. However, its Olympics Esports portion is an invitational event.

Tennis

The Tennis portion involves the Tennis Clash mobile game from Wildlife Studios. Seize the opportunity to smash the competition by downloading it on your tablet or phone.
