Globe named Most Reliable Mobile Network in PH for four straight quarters

Leading digital solutions platform Globe started 2023 on a high, emerging as the Most Reliable Mobile Network in the Philippines for the fourth straight quarter, according to global leader in fixed broadband and mobile network testing applications Ookla.

Based on Ookla® Speedtest Intelligence® Q1 2023 data, Globe continued to dominate the industry, obtaining the highest consistency scores since the second quarter of last year.

Reliability is an elusive recognition in the industry, with only a few telecom providers from around the world getting this rating. It is also the most sought-after attribute of network performance that has a clear impact on customer experience. 

Data released by Ookla revealed that Globe achieved the highest All Technology Consistency Score of 83.39 percent in the first quarter of 2023, an improvement from the 83.13 percent it achieved in the fourth quarter of last year. Competitors followed with 81.52 percent and 75.10 percent.

Likewise, Globe was hailed as the Most Consistent Broadband in several provinces in the country for the first quarter.  It secured a consistency score of 85.01 in Pampanga, 69.68 percent in Antique, 66.13 in Samar, 65.91 percent in Lanao del Sur, 60.42 percent in Leyte, and 59.46 percent in Eastern Visayas.

Consistency score is calculated based on the percentage of a provider’s data samples that meet the minimum 5 Mbps threshold for mobile download and 1 Mbps for upload, and 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload for fixed networks.

Globe also topped All Technology Availability with a score of 93.18 percent in the first quarter of 2023, up from 92.38 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022. Its score bested competitors which were at 91.88 percent and 91.64 percent.

Availability identifies the network in which users spend the highest percentage of their time on all technology and is based on coverage scans taken on Android devices.

Ookla also reported that Globe has become the fastest 5G mobile network in Makati City with a median download speed of 171.814 Mbps, Cagayan de Oro City with 159.298 Mbps, Misamis Oriental with 157.795 Mbps, and Zamboanga with 99.916 Mbps.

Globe spent massively on its capital expenditures over the last two years to establish a significant infrastructure backbone. It now shifts towards capital efficiency and optimization.

 The majority or 86 percent of Globe’s Capex in 2022 was spent on data requirements, ensuring that customers have access to the best digital solutions and connectivity wherever they are. Globe built 1,702 new cell sites, upgraded 13,600 mobile sites, and installed 5G 2,267 cell towers last year.
