The company discovered a surprising trend: almost all respondents replaced tutoring with AI chatbot learning. Students shared various reasons why they prefer this software over human tutors.

Junior college student Johnson Adegoke said, “As a current student using ChatGPT, I have found it to be a helpful and convenient tool for studying.”

“Unlike seeing a tutor, ChatGPT is available 24/7 and can answer my questions immediately,” he added. Moreover, Adegoke stated the AI program lets him learn whenever he wants.

“I can study at my own pace and review the information as many times as I need to. While it’s not quite the same as having a human tutor, I appreciate the accessibility and flexibility that ChatGPT offers.” Also, Intelligent shared these other responses:

  • “More relaxed, more efficient.”
  • “ChatGPT’s ability to correct mistakes makes it easier for children to learn correctly.”
  • “ChatGPT can provide timely feedback on students’ learning progress and performance and help students adjust their learning direction and methods.”

Out of all the student respondents, 85% said ChatGPT tutoring is more effective than learning with a human. Moreover, 39% said they have completely replaced conventional tutoring sessions with ChatGPT.

Why do parents prefer tutoring with ChatGPT?

The parents surveyed shared a similar sentiment. According to Intelligent, 96% stated studying with the AI program is more effective than learning with a tutor. Also, 30% have replaced traditional tutoring with the AI program. Here are the other things they said about ChatGPT:

  • “Kids love it [and] it’s cheap.”
  • “Because ChatGPT can not only save on study expenses but also save on time.”
  • “My children prefer to use the software for oral practice, and the results are much better.”
  • “Because ChatGPT is better able to know what I need, what my weaknesses are, and what I need to strengthen.”

What do teachers say about ChatGPT learning?

Education consultation company Intelligent also interviewed tutors regarding their reactions to the new ChatGPT tutoring trend. For example, here’s what tutor Carolyn Knight said:

“As a foreign language tutor, I admit that at first, I was concerned that I could be replaced by ChatGPT. Not only are its capabilities as a language learning tool remarkable, it’s available 24/7 and doesn’t charge by the hour.”

“However, as amazing as it is, it’s still only a tool, and students need more than just knowledge to learn. The bond between student and teacher, one of trust, encouragement, and bearing witness to the student’s learning journey, is in my opinion what promotes true learning and growth in a way that prompts and computer-generated responses just can’t.”

The learning firm also spoke with Meteusz Kostrz, cofounder of UK academic consultation firm Edunade. He said, “A big advantage is the time-saving component, where instead of researching for hours and sometimes days, one can find relevant information in a matter of seconds.”

“This, if used wisely, can free up space for other activities which can be beneficial to students’ growth. Additionally, basic concepts can also be easily understood using tools like ChatGPT, which is very useful, as one does not always have their tutor at hand to be able to ask questions.”

However, there is also a negative part to it, as students nowadays tend to use ChatGPT almost too often.” Also, Diane Gayeski, a higher education consultant from Intelligent reminded people that AI programs are only tools that cannot replace human tutors.

“Most tutors do much more than provide content – they structure study time, they provide modeling and motivation, and they help to diagnose where learners are having trouble and can then structure the explanations and practice to overcome those obstacles,” Gayeski stated.

Conclusion

A recent survey from Intelligent.com found that more students and parents prefer ChatGPT over tutors. Also, respondents reported better results from the AI program than human educators.

Teachers must acknowledge that technology is rapidly changing education and adapt accordingly. Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming a major part of daily life, and they must prepare their students for this new reality.
