Mark Zuckerberg Says Apple Vision Pro Has No Magical Solutions

01:10 PM June 09, 2023

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg commented on the Apple Vision Pro during today’s companywide meeting. Surprisingly, the social media creator said Apple’s latest gadget has no significant tech innovations Meta hasn’t “already explored.” Also, he emphasized Meta’s upcoming Quest 3 headset will be more accessible to a wider user base.

It is important to see how companies compete with each other because they reveal how they intend to serve customers. Specifically, reading the words of Meta’s CEO shows how it will stand against the Apple Vision Pro. As a result, we can see whether we should consider buying the Meta Quest 3 or Apple’s VR headset.

This article will discuss Mark Zuckerberg’s comments on the Apple Vision Pro. Then, I will compare its announced features with the Quest 3. This discussion will be fun for all tech enthusiasts.

What did Mark Zuckerberg say about the Apple Vision Pro?

FEATURED STORIES

Mark Zuckerberg said the Apple Vision Pro is significantly more expensive than his Quest 3 but provides no better features. More importantly, he revealed his long-term goal for his VR headset by discussing Apple’s tech demo.

“I think that their announcement really showcases the difference in the values and the vision that our companies bring to this in a way that I think is really important,” the Meta CEO told employees. Also, he said his company’s VR headset was about “people interacting in new ways and feeling closer while being active and doing things.

“By contrast, every demo that they showed was a person sitting on a couch by themself,” Zuckerberg noted in Apple’s WWDC 2023 event. “I mean, that could be the vision of the future of computing, but like, it’s not the one that I want.” Here is the rest of Mark Zuckerberg’s statement:

“From what I’ve seen initially, I’d say the good news is that there is no kind of magical solutions that they have to any of the constraints on laws of physics that our teams haven’t already explored and thought of.”

“More importantly, our vision for the metaverse and presence is fundamentally social. It’s about people interacting in new ways and feeling closer in new ways.”

“There’s a real philosophical difference in terms of how we’re approaching this. And seeing what they put out there and how they’re going to compete just made me even more excited and, in a lot of ways, optimistic that what we’re doing matters and is going to succeed. But it’s going to be a fun journey.”

Apple envisioned the Vision Pro as a “spatial computer,” meaning it uses your physical environment as part of your digital interface. The company designed this VR headset for daily use, specifically for workplaces.

You can connect your Magic Keyboard and Trackpad to have a VR workspace anytime and anywhere. Similar to other VR devices, it projects apps in front of you.

What makes it different is it doesn’t lock the apps to your face. Instead, Vision Pro apps feel like they are hovering around you. Moreover, you can navigate the interface by turning your head and tapping apps.

You may also wear the Vision Pro to immerse yourself in ultra-realistic environments. Alternatively, you may open Panorama shots to make you feel like you’re in its captured moment.

The visor lets you see nearby people if it detects any, letting you be aware of your surroundings. Also, the glass projects your eyes, letting people know you know they are there.

As Mark Zuckerberg says, the Meta Quest 3 focuses on bringing people together. It focuses on VR games you can play with your friends and family.

Perhaps the biggest advantage the Quest has over the Apple Vision Pro is its existing games library. It lets you play virtual reality games, but the Vision Pro announcement only mentioned old Apple Arcade games.

Conclusion

The Apple Vision Pro announcement did not impress Mark Zuckerberg. He says it does not provide features Meta hasn’t considered for the Quest 3.

Still, it is up to you whether to get the Meta Quest 3 or the Apple Vision Pro. The former costs $299.99 for the 128GB version and $349.99 for the 256GB variant.
