PH ranks 6th among 40 countries with strong computer, electronics industries
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines ranked sixth out of 40 countries with the strongest computers and electronics industries in the world, a report of a US-based think tank found.
According to the 2023 Hamilton Index of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) released in December, the Philippines merited a 2.46 location quotient (LQ) score, and an “over-performing” remark.
“The Philippines is an important regional player in the computers and electronics industry, and it is comparatively strong in industries ranging from chemicals and electrical equipment to motor vehicles and other transportation equipment,” ITIF President Robert D. Atkinson said.
For the category, Taiwan ranked first, followed by Singapore at second place, and Korea at third.
Meanwhile, the country also ranked 14th out of 30 countries for the general relative performance, according to the report.

The ITIF also reported that the Philippines scored LQ ratings of 1.61 in the chemicals industry and 1.56 in the motor vehicles industry.

However, the country was observed to be weak in IT and information services, where it garnered a 0.30 LQ and pharmaceuticals, where it had a 0.34 LQ.
