OpenAI Search may challenge Google Search soon

OpenAI opened everyone’s eyes to the possibilities of artificial intelligence. Consequently, tech companies worldwide want to cultivate its potential. 

One of the largest examples is Microsoft, which partnered with OpenAI for $10 billion last year. In response, Google focused on AI projects because it may turn into a search engine competitor.

Surprisingly, recent tech insider reports reveal that OpenAI Search might be coming soon, probably this week.

How might OpenAI Search work?

On May 1, 2024, an X social media user with the pseudonym Jimmy Apples claimed OpenAI might announce a search engine on May 9.

Also, a Reddit post from r/singularity allegedly spotted a “search.chatgpt.com” domain and an SSL certification.

The AI firm could be preparing the URL for OpenAI Search. Aside from the online rumors, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said ChatGPT could be the future of search.

“If we can build a better search engine than Google, then we should,” he stated during an interview with Lex Fridman.

“Google shows you 13 ads and ten blue links, which is one way to find information, but the thing that is exciting to me is that maybe there is a much better way to help people find and act on information.”

Maybe it is interesting to say ‘How do we help you find the information you need, how do we help create that in some cases or point you to it in others’,” Altman added.

Tech insider website Tom’s Guide says OpenAI Search might function like Google Gemini, except with more live data. 

For example, it could show the top song on the billboard chart in real time without lagging or caching.

Nowadays, a version of GPT-4 is available on Microsoft Bing. However, it doesn’t function as a standalone search engine but as a Bing “add-on.”
