Artificial intelligence or AI will transform how we look for online information. Inquirer Tech tested two of the biggest models: SearchGPT vs. Meta AI Search.
SearchGPT is OpenAI’s ChatGPT with a new online search function. Inquirer Tech recently gained access to SearchGPT after signing on the waitlist.
See what AI search can do today with its most recent iterations!
Online search
Inquirer Tech started by testing an online search for both models. On November 1, the writer asked them, “What did President Duterte say recently?”
In response, Meta AI search shared the following results, saying the former president admitted to maintaining a “death squad.” Also, it cited BusinessMirror PH as a source.

On the other hand, SearchGPT provided a longer answer. Moreover, it used four sources: The Times, AP News, Philstar, and Reuters.
Next, the writer compared SearchGPT and Meta AI in terms of their ability to read and summarize content from websites.
Meta AI failed to complete the request, while SearchGPT summarized the article about an AI system that can notify plant owners when their gardens need more water or pruning.
These results likely show that SearchGPT is a more reliable research tool than Meta AI. It can provide more sources and summarize them individually, making it easier to write reports.
The writer tested their online search capabilities further by requesting chord progressions for Original Pinoy Music (OPM). Specifically, he asked:
Give me the chord progression for BINI’s “Pantropiko.”
In response, Meta AI refused, saying the song is copyrighted material.
On the other hand, SearchGPT listed the song’s guitar chords based on a YouTube video.

AI search and content generation
SearchGPT and Meta AI aren’t mere chatbots any longer. The online search function lets them generate content from online information, too.
Inquirer Tech tested this upgrade for SearchGPT against Meta AI. The writer asked, “Write me a song about inihaw na liempo (grilled pork) in the style of December Avenue.”
Meta AI shared a Tagalog song based on the Filipino band’s style. Even better, it shared chords for the song and described it briefly.
On the other hand, SearchGPT shared a song and a short description without a chord progression. As a result, Meta AI wins this round for providing more details.
Next, the writer tested their image generation features by asking, “Make an image showing a dog eating ice cream on a cloud.”
Here are the results from both models:
However, Meta AI has an advantage due to its Animate button. Click it, and the chatbot will add a few seconds of animation to the images.
Conclusion
This test of SearchGPT versus Meta AI revealed the purposes more suitable for each model. The former is ideal for research purposes, while the latter is more accessible.
You can use Meta AI on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Type “@Meta AI” before your search query or tap on the option.
OpenAI’s search bot is only available via the waitlist at the time of writing, so you can try Meta AI in the meantime.
