DICT pushes for digital reforms in government processes

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) emphasized the importance of digitalizing, integrating, and simplifying government processes.

On Tuesday, at the GovX.0 Summit in Pasay City, DICT Undersecretary David Almirol discussed government efforts to advance digital governance.

The Philippine News Agency said the DICT is leading a major digital transformation in government transactions.

This includes the launch of 25 digital platforms like the eGov Super App. 

It consolidates government services like driver’s license applications, Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) certifications, and e-banking into a single platform.

Almirol said the Super App has processed over 440 million transactions and integrated 1,100 government systems.

What’s more, the DICT developed the eGov Blockchain to enhance data security and transparency across various agencies. 

“Our goal is simplification, standardization and integration, not duplication,” Almirol stated.

“If one agency already has your verified data, you shouldn’t have to submit it again elsewhere,” he added. 

He explained that the DICT prioritized cloud optimization, reducing costs by 60%. 

Moreover, it eliminated underutilized infrastructure by providing centralized cloud services for free to government agencies. 

These initiatives have been steadily boosting the Philippine government’s digitalization. 

The 2025 Asia Pacific Digitalization Nations Index shows the country has climbed from 80th to 49th place in global digitalization rankings.
