Globe restores Metro Manila services after outage caused by underground fiber cable damage

According to Globe, the outage affected subscribers in parts of Metro Manila and nearby areas, with users reporting problems involving mobile data, calls, text messaging, and internet connectivity.
“Initial findings indicate that in one affected area in Paco, Manila, underground fiber optic cables were damaged during drainage excavation works conducted by a DPWH subcontractor,” Globa said in an official statement.
The company said the disruption was traced to multiple fiber cuts affecting underground cable infrastructure. Repair work was conducted immediately after the damage was identified, with services gradually restored as crews completed repairs.
“It is very unfortunate this disruption happened, which could have been prevented had there been prior coordination with some agencies,” said Joel Agustin, senior vice president for Service Planning and Engineering at Globe.
Globe confirmed that network performance returned to normal late Tuesday evening after restoration work was completed. The company also apologized to affected subscribers during the disruption.
Globe said it plans to enhance coordination with the DPWH, local government units and contractors to reinforce infrastructure protection and improve the visibility of its underground assets.
The outage triggered widespread online complaints from users across Metro Manila and parts of Luzon, particularly from customers relying on mobile data and home internet services for work and communication.
