Sun Cellular teams up with Opera for ‘cheapest’ internet access

MANILA, Philippines–Telecommunications giant Sun Cellular is teaming up with Norwegian-based software Opera to give Filipinos the “cheapest” internet access at P15 per day.

“We acknowledge the growing penetration of the internet across all age and social groups and how it is becoming deeply incorporated into the lifestyle of the average Filipino,” said Michele Curran, Vice President for Data Services of Sun Cellular in a product launch recently.

He said that the latest offer is “not just an affordable access to the internet” but will “also lead them to experience a fast and efficient mobile web browser” through the Opera Mini browser.

Opera chief executive officer Lars Boilseen said the Opera Mini is a “perfect supplement” to Sun Cellular’s affordable and high speed third-generation connectivity.

“Regardless of the smartphone platform of users, they will find this a value-added experience to mobile internet browsing even without having to spend much,” he said.

The Opera Mini browser is six times faster browsing than Apple and Android in smartphones. It is compatible with 3,000 phones.

To avail of the offer, users need to download Sun Cellular Opera Mini browser at https://wap.suncellular.com.ph to their smartphones. To have the unlimited browsing for one day, text the keyword Opera15 and send to 247. If you want seven days of unlimited browsing for P80, text Opera80; for 15 days of unlimited browsing for P160, text OPERA160; and for 30 days of unlimited browsing for P299, text OPERA299. Send to 247.

The offer is not valid to non-Opera Mini web browsers.
