MANILA, Philippines—Mobile phone services of Smart and Sun networks “have been adversely affected” in Eastern Samar and parts of Leyte, Smart Communications said Saturday.

But John Mark V. Tuazon of Smart’s Public Affairs Group said that the telecom networks “continue to provide vital communications links for much of central Philippines despite the impact of Supertyphoon ‘Yolanda’.”

Signals are now available in Western and Central Visayas, except in areas that are still without power, said Tuazon.

“Our signal in other Samar provinces and in Southern Leyte remains on air,” he said.

Tuzson said that repair works are underway.
“We have pre-positioned teams of engineers and technicians in the most affected areas and they have commenced restoration work,” he said.
