A video of a young boy being physically and verbally abused by his own father has been making the rounds on social media.
In an 8-minute Facebook video posted by a certain Arlene Medina de Vera of Muntinlupa City, the boy was seen being repeteadly hit by his father on the different parts of the body including his chest, back, and head.
The father also kicked his crying son several times. He was also heard cursing the boy, even threatening him at one point of the video: “Gusto mo patayin na kita? (Do you want me to kill you?)”
In the comments section of the Facebook video, DeVera on Monday said the boy was already under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“Nahuli na rin po ng SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics team) ‘yung tatay. ‘Yung nanay na lang ng bata ang hinahanap kasi nilayasan daw po sila,” De Vera added.
Netizens tagged the mother as a certain Liezel Buccuan.
De Vera also drew flak from some netizens for taking a video of the incident, but she defended herself by saying that authorities wanted to see an evidence of the abuse.
“Kailangan daw po may ebidensya. Nakakalungkot, kailangan muna nilang makita na sinasaktan ‘yung bata,” she said.
As of writing, the viral video has garnered more than one million views and 74,600 shares.
DSWD is yet to release a statement.
