Guinness World Records: ‘AlDub’ hashtag among Twitter ‘record-breakers’

Guinness World Records recognized the hashtag #AlDubEBTamangPanahon as one of the five hashtags which broke records and made history on Twitter.

In an article published on Monday celebrating Twitter’s 10th anniversary, Guinness World Records said that the said hashtag, which was tweeted by 40, 706, 392 users is the “Most used hashtag in 24 hours” on Twitter.

The hashtag was used from October 24 to 25, 2015.

The hashtag was used when Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza of the Eat Bulaga “Kalyeserye” loveteam “AlDub” were able to finally meet in person after weeks of being in a “split-screen romance”. The meeting happened at the 55,000-seater Philippine Arena.

Other events which made “record-breaking” history on Twitter according to Guinness World Records were: Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s first tweet; Caitlyn Jenner being the fastest to reach one million followers on Twitter in just four hours and three minutes; the 2014 World Cup match between Germany and Argentina which set the record for most tweets per minute (618,725 tweets in the 60 seconds after the final whistle); and Ellen DeGeneres’ Oscar selfie with Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lawrence, among other Hollywood A-listers, being the most retweeted message on Twitter. AJH/CDG
