The 10 worst baby names by Reddit users

“What is the worst baby name you’ve heard?”

This question became the basis of a poll by a social media siteciting unique, misspelled names parents all over the world would use for their babies and which probably baffle them while growing up.

Reddit, a social media site, recently featured a thread of the worst baby names, and irked users took their grave annoyance by suggesting unimaginable baby names.

Some parents prevalently shower their babies ‘out of this world’ names to make them unique and special.

They can also enshrine uncommon names that can make their baby ‘stand out’ among the rest, such as ‘Judge’, ‘King’ and the famous Filipina names ‘Princess’ and ‘Queenie’.

Parents can either interchange vowels and consonants or can randomly snatch words which they can place in their babies’ birth certificate.

Filipinos are not alien in coming up with creative names for their children. In December 2013, two of the names in the list of the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) passers drew curiosity from netizens because of uniqueness: Sincerely Yours ’98 and Jules Cyber 1A22. Sincerely Yours, nicknamed ‘Truly’, also had siblings named Macaroni ’85 and Spaghetti ’88.

For instance, the female name ‘Olivia’ is the second most popular name in Canada, according to a report by Huffington Post Canada. As a way to cringe from the trend, some parents name their children ‘Aliviyah’ or ‘Ahlivyah’. Negative effects can surface in the long run – giving ‘eerie’ and unimaginable names to babies that result to difficulties with spelling and reading their names in class.

Aside from worst baby names, Reddit users were frustrated with how some parents replace ‘i’ with ‘y’ in many of their children’s first names.

The top 10 choices of worst names by Reddit were based on hundreds of comments and votes made by users.
