What was once an April Fool’s joke is actually coming to the market. The Smart Boy from Hyperkin can turn almost any android device into a retro Game Boy.

According to Geek, the April Fool’s stunt was actually a way for Hyperkin to gauge interest for the Smart Boy. A developer kit is now available for order at the Hyperkinlab with a price tag of $60 and shipping date of December 2016. This nifty little gadget is not just an attachment that gives Android devices Game Boy controls. It is also fully capable of reading old cartridges for both Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

The Smart Boy connects to Android devices via micro USB port. There was not specific mention of compatible mobile phone dimensions but it would be a safe guess to say that 6-inch devices may not fit.

Hyperkin has also done work on a number of retro items including the Retron 5 which play cartridges from ten different classic gaming consoles. Alfred Bayle
