WATCH: Microsoft applies hand tracking to VR

While the HoloLens picks up steam, another of Microsoft’s least known projects continues development at a steady pace. Researchers are now in the process of creating software that would allow virtual environments to recognize hand motion.

A few years back, Microsoft introduced gesture navigation on Windows using a Kinect camera. Now with the current growth in popularity of virtual and augmented reality, researchers have begun to apply hand gesture for navigating VR space.

According to a report on The Verge, while the technology still has its limitations, it’s easy to see the potential application for VR. It may very well do away with the current handheld controllers that come bundled with VR headsets. Alfred Bayle
