Guy Bloomberg, a content manager at PAX Australia and Oz Comic-Con, created an event called “Pokémon Go Walk in Sydney #1″ to congregate fellow lovers of the smartphone game. Around 13,000 users were interested in attending the event as of that day.

In an interview with Mashable Australia, Bloomberg confessed that he only expected 1,000 people to attend his event. “I did not think it would be that big, so I was very surprised. It’s definitely a thing. It’s getting people out of the house,” he told the news site.

When someone suddenly sees a creature up for grabs, someone would yell out to stay alerted and catch the pokémon. Then, gamers would share snapshots of their experience using the hashtag #PokeGoWalk.

In a Facebook post on the event’s page, Bloomberg invited other gamers to join future Pokémon Go events.

“Fantastic turnout, perfect weather, and so many lures! Thanks, everyone! We’re continuing to walk around the suggested path around the harbor towards King Street Wharf, feel free to continue along with us,” he wrote.
