WATCH: New IKEA ad depicts 16th-century ‘food porn’

International furniture giant IKEA has conceptualized a vintage and classy advertisement of how food “Instagramming,” also known as food porn, would look like in the 16th century.

In the video clip uploaded on video streaming site YouTube, an aristocratic family is seated on the dining table for a candlelit dinner. One of the young girls reaches out to a fruit but her father reprimands her, saying that he has to “capture the food feast” before they could take a bite. The father immediately summons a painter to put on canvas the entire meal. Meanwhile, his famished daughter dozes off. Afterward, the painting was brought to a carriage and taken to every house in the neighborhood to gather “likes” before it was returned to the family gathering. It was only then that the family started to eat dinner.

The ad’s conclusion stated,“It’s a meal. Not a competition.” The commercial collected almost 5 million views since its posting on July 31. Gianna Francesca Catolico
