WATCH: Google Chrome update shows better battery efficiency

/ 09:18 AM September 08, 2016

Some time back in June, Microsoft released benchmark results comparing the battery efficiency of its Edge browser versus Chrome, Firefox and Opera. The results showed Chrome to be dead last. Two months later, Google came out with its own benchmark  to showcase the improvements on Chrome 53.

A video highlights the big battery-efficiency improvement that the new version has over last year’s Chrome 46, leading to over 10 hours of HTML5 video playback from Vimeo, reports The Verge.

The results, however, offer no hints on battery drain when browsing regular websites and handling day-to-day computing tasks.

Google doesn’t claim to have all the bugs worked out. Nonetheless, the update is a step in the right direction in fixing the battery-drain issue surrounding Chrome.  Alfred Bayle
