Microsoft confident despite Sony’s new PlayStation 4 Pro

Microsoft is fairly confident that its console’s hardware will still trump the PS4, but market reaction to the release of the PS4 Pro may yet urge Microsoft to fast-track its plans for the Project Scorpio release.  Image PlayStation

Sony has unveiled its new PlayStation 4 Pro at last, and it’s packing some new hardware to enable 4K and HDR gaming, among other things. But it looks like Microsoft is not too concerned about the competition’s movements.

Sony’s console is set to enter the market next month while Microsoft’s Project Scorpio, the successor to the 4K-capable Xbox One, won’t be arriving until late next year, reports The Verge.

Albert Penello, director of product management and planning for the Xbox, said in an interview with Polygon, “I feel pretty good about the decisions we’ve made.”

He added, “Both we and Sony are investing in 4K as the future of the console space, and we have a history of adding features to our hardware.”

It would seem that Microsoft is quite confident that its machine’s hardware will be more than adequate to compete with Sony’s PS4 Pro. Given that it is targeting a 6-teraflop GPU clock, it would easily overshadow the PS4 Pro’s own GPU by 43 percent.

However, it can’t be denied that Sony has a head start when it comes to sales what with holiday game releases in just a few more months. Should things get a little too competitive, more details about Project Scorpio may be revealed sooner than later. Alfred Bayle
