Valentines Day is fast approaching and while some fuss over what to do for their dates, others care not for such troubles. One thing’s for sure, one man in China and his 18-year-old son will not be lonely.

This is because 59-year-old Li Chen (pseudonym) and his son Yang Yang are the proud and happy owners of seven sex dolls – dolls that they care for and treat as family, reports The Sun.

Li Chen’s hobby began when he separated from his wife due to her gambling addiction. To fill the void left in his life, he decided to purchase his first doll. Living in Husiui in southwestern China’s Guizhou Province, Li has taken care of a family of eight, which includes seven dolls and his now 18-year-old son.

One of the seven dolls was actually a gift to his son for his 18th birthday. While Li himself claims that he has never used any of the dolls for sex, he is hoping that his son would.

Li reportedly said that he bought the doll for Yang Yang to “help him with his needs,” adding: “In my heart, I hope that [Yang Yang] uses the dolls [for sex].”

Li Chen himself has amassed a following on Chinese forums for the elaborate photos and videos that he creates and uploads with his beloved dolls as subjects.

Another report from the Global Times has stated that the demand for lifelike silicon dolls as companions has grown in China. The dolls are not cheap and Li has already spent a small fortune in purchasing the dolls as well as their different outfits in his collection.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence and continued research into making lifelike robots, it may not be long before androids, like the ones in Westworld, will be available for purchase by lonely men and women for company.

Who knows, there might eventually be one among them who would fight for its ‘humanity’ as Robin Williams’ Andrew did in Bicentennial Man. Alfred Bayle
