New Steam game promotes ‘death-positive’ attitude

Death is a concept that’s often feared and avoided as a topic of conversation. But in the world of games, it’s easy to get away with just about anything.

Enter “A Mortician’s Tale”, an upcoming game on Steam that describes itself as “death positive.” Produced by Laundry Bear, it assigns the player with the role of a mortician running a funeral home. Activities include preparing cadavers, attending funerals and consoling the loved ones of the deceased.

It’s visual design is dominated by a purple theme, which also symbolizes mourning or death in many cultures. However, the game uses it in a way that helps to lighten up a somber subject.

The style is further complimented by a solemn soundtrack that’s introspective.

Death-positive is a concept that emphasizes the natural quality of death. Rather than be feared, death is seen as an inevitable part of the natural order of things.
