WATCH: GameCube games made to run on Samsung Galaxy S8
Emulator software normally require beefy hardware to run smoothly. That’s why emulators for current generation consoles are almost nonexistent.
This was the case with the Dolphin emulator, an app for running GameCube and Wii games on Android devices. Previous Android devices were unable to emulate games in a playable manner, suffering from very poor framerates.
Article continues after this advertisementHowever, based on this video from GuruAidTechSupport, it appears that mobile hardware has finally progressed far enough to allow smooth emulation of Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Mario Sunshine on the new Samsung Galaxy S8.
For reference, the S8 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 2.3GHz 64-bit octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM.
With the Switch making good money for Nintendo, it’s likely that ports of older GameCube and Wii games will be made available for the new console down the line. Until that happens, gamers can settle for some unofficial versions on a powerful enough smartphone. JB
