The question of what to do with all the pollution that we pump into the atmosphere is yet to be answered. However, there have been suggestions made and one of them is to turn car exhaust into high-quality ink.
Scientific American reports that researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found a way to turn soot from car tailpipes into ink, using a device called KAALINK.
For the system to work, the KAALINK device is hooked up to the car exhaust to capture the particulates that are otherwise mixed into the air that we breathe.
KAALINK developers estimate that a 45-minute drive can produce 30 milliliters of ink. A typical ballpoint pen holds .25 milliliters. With that much ink on hand, it could be put to good use through an artistic endeavor or two. Alfred Bayle/JB
