Android is one of the most widely used operating systems in the market today. It is most commonly found in smartphones, but has made its way to other gadgets such as multimedia boxes. Now, the OS is being adapted to power the next generation of smart TVs.

A new line of OLED Android TV smart UHD TVs under Skyworth and Toshiba was recently revealed. These Android TVs will cover both the premium and affordable market segments.

The Toshiba branded Android TV will cater to the high-end market while the Skyworth branded ones will have more affordable price points.

The Android TV series integrates with other Android-powered devices through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. These TVs can be controlled on an Android phone through the Android TV Controller app. They also come with conventional remote controls.

Another method of navigating the Android TV series is through voice command which can be done using a remote with microphone, included in the system.

It is worth noting that the system requires a more or less quiet environment. The TV had trouble hearing commands when multiple individuals in close proximity spoke at the same time.

With Chromecast built-in, users can stream movies and photos from other devices directly on to their Skyworth and Toshiba Android TVs.

Skyworth has partnered with Toshiba in order to learn from the company and adapt its design philosophies, as well as get a wider market share. Skyworth will also be taking over marketing and distribution of Toshiba TVs in the Philippines.

The range of Android TVs that will be available in the Philippine market include 49-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch models. While the prices for other models have yet to be announced, the 49-inch model was revealed to be priced at P35,000. Availability for the Android TV series starts by the end of June. JB
