While the demand for real-time strategy games have gone down in recent years, a classic from the golden days of the genre is making a comeback. Microsoft has just announced that “Age of Empire: Definitive Edition” is currently in the pipeline.
The “Definitive Edition” will be a remaster of the original “Age of Empire” game that was released back in 1997 and will also be in celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary. This remaster will bump the game resolution up to 4K Ultra HD. It will also have upgraded art, new narration and hundreds of new and rebuilt sound effects.
This new edition will also come with a single player and multiplayer mode. Fans of the game will be able to enjoy the included classic mode for that old 1997 “Age of Empire” feel.
“Age of Empire” is a historical real-time strategy game for the PC developed by Ensemble Studios twenty years ago. The game focuses on the historical events in Europe, Africa and Asia, starting from the Stone Age up to the expansion of the Roman Empire. Players are able to research technology to surpass their enemies and develop their empire.
Microsoft has yet to announce a release date but they are recruiting for beta testers. Interested gamers can sign up for the closed beta test here. They also need an Xbox Live account and must be over 18 years old. JB
