Online PC game “Gunbound” was recently ported to the mobile platform as “GunboundM” with the game being made available for both Android and iOS.

This free-to-play mobile version of the classic turn-based online artillery game was developed by a new company called DargomStudio. Co., Ltd in partnership with Gunbound creator Softnyx.

GunboundM generally uses the same mechanics as the PC version, with a few changes.

FEATURED STORIES

Instead of players controlling an individual battle-mobile then fighting as a team against another group of players, GunboundM gives a players control over a team of up to three mobiles. Player matches will essentially be one-on-one, with each player customizing and controlling their own team of mobiles.

To customize one’s team, players will need to purchase different battle mobiles as well as avatars from the shop using in-game currency or through electronic transactions. The shop uses a “gacha” system where a random item will appear with every purchase, thus players are not guaranteed to get a strong mobile or avatar to compliment their team. Players may also replenish in-game currency by purchasing from the shop using actual money.

For the controls, a bullet guide path in the form of a dotted line help players aim their shots. The game tutorial says that wind direction and strength is not taken into account when the guide path is traced, but in actual game play, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

A unique feature with GunboundM is the inclusion of a single player AI battle system called Battle Training. Here, players use their team to fight AI-controlled mobiles to get special rewards and practice their skills.

For veteran Gunbound players who are wondering if GunboundM is a replacement for the original PC-based Gunbound, that is not the case. Gunbound PC still holds much of the appeal that made the game popular, such as individual mobile and avatar customization, as well as playing with up to seven different individuals in a four-on-four team fight.

On the other hand, graphics on GunboundM is improved over the original Gunbound. It also feels more like a mobile counterpart rather than a replacement through its team customization and gacha system. The unique Battle Training mode has a more mobile gaming touch as it allows developers to launch various limited-time events to keep players engaged. JB
