A screen issue has surfaced about the Google Pixel 2 XL smartphone, just short of its Oct. 19 release date. One reviewer reported of a screen burn-in after only days of use.
The report came from Android Central’s Alex Dobie, who tweeted a photo of his Pixel 2 XL screen showing a faint burn-in of the navigation buttons at the bottom.

Burn-ins are permanent instances when a ghost image of the last item displayed on the screen continues to be seen. These are commonly observed on OLED (organic light emitting diode) screens and usually appear after several months of use. Some of the common burn-ins involve the clock and navigation buttons.
A similar phenomenon had been observed with LCD screens called image retention. However, image retention tend to be temporary and often go away after a short time has passed.
Android Central recommended using a black or red background to check for any burned-in image on a smartphone.
The Verge attempted to contact Google regarding the issue. According to a statement, Google’s tech guys are now investigating.
While burn-ins are inevitable especially for OLED screens, the short amount of time it took to appear on the Pixel 2 XL has some owners concerned.
