A 19-year-old Chinese blogger was arrested and imprisoned on charges of prostitution when she offered “free sex” on social media.

Ye Mouyi, with online handle Qianjin Yeye, uploaded a geo-tagged message on Chinese social media site Weibo and messaging app WeChat on March 1. The message read, “Somebody come get me … Sex … for free … 6316,” and came with a video of a woman in a hotel room wearing only her undergarments.

According to Chinese news site ifeng.com via News.co.au, the incident happened at the Hilton Hotel in Haitang Bay, Sanya City, Hainan Province. An estimated 3,000 individuals looking for Ye flocked to the hotel, prompting the establishment to call the police. Some of them knocked on the door of room 6316, while others called the front desk to ask for information on the guest staying in the room.

Ye later confessed to making the post as a way to gain more followers.

Video footage of Ye leaving the hotel in secret with help from hotel staff appeared on YouTube. She also asked people on WeChat to stop sharing her post because it was “just a joke.”

No sexual encounter happened that night. Police officers later found Ye at the Sanya Phoenix International Airport on March 2, where she was arrested. She was also charged for disrupting the Hilton Hotel’s operations because of the flood of men looking for her.

Authorities promptly took down Ye’s Weibo page and suspended her social media accounts. Police confined her to prison for 15 days with a fine of 500 yuan (about P4,100). Alfred Bayle /ra
