The first trailer of the Filipino-made fighting game “Bayani: Kanino Ka Kakampi?” showcased it’s gameplay and the character “Joe” Rizal.

This independently produced game took inspiration from Philippine historical figures and gave their backstories a kind of anime-style twist. Its first trailer went online on Aug. 29 through the game’s Facebook page.

The game’s website also indicated that the game may soon be available through online video game distributer Steam’s Early Access program. The developers also plan to release “Bayani” for the mobile and console gaming platforms.

“Bayani” made its public debut back in 2016 during the Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit, which was held at the SMX Convention Center. A representative from Ranida Games, the team behind its development, was given stage time to showcase an early prototype. They also allowed attendees to play a demo that only had Joe Rizal and Andres Bonifacio available as playable characters.

Apart from Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio, other Filipino heroes featured in the game include Apolinario Mabini, Juan Luna, Emilio Aguinaldo, Tandang Sora and Gregoria “Oriang” Alvarez de Jesus.

Ranida Games used cell-shading to animate the heroes and based their designs from the work of artist Anthony Dacayo.

A newer version of the game with more playable characters was recently set up for demo play at SM City Masinag to commemorate National Heroes Day. The demo began on Aug. 27 and will run until Aug. 31.  /ra
